Hi guys! I need some help. I’m in the midst of revising my current manuscript and I need some inspiration of the music variety. Something is just not clicking, and it really helps me to have a playlist to listen to as I read through the manuscript. Weird, I know, but at this stage of revising it really helps to have songs that set the mood of a scene to help me flesh things out.
The problem is, I’ve gone through my music on iTunes and it all seems very old and tired — been there, done that. I need something fresh. Something so good it will jump out, grab my head and smack it down on my keyboard, demanding my attention.
I can’t tell you what it is I’m working on right now, but I can tell you the tone I’m going for. First of all, I need melancholy, haunting music. Something in the veins of this:
My MC has been through A LOT. She’s moved to a new place, hoping to start over and put the bad behind her, but, as suspected, it’s not that easy. There’s some crazy, creepy stuff happening in her new town.
I could also use something rock-like. Something you’d see in an action movie where the good guy has had it and is finally going to go kick some major ass. Something like this:
I could also use a love song. This is a love that has blossomed from a friendship into something much deeper over the course of the last eight months. It should be sweet, yet desperate because there is a chance it won’t last if things don’t go well for our overly-troubled MC. (Could I be more vague?) Something like:
If you followed the blog tour for “The Weeping”, then you saw a couple of posts for my “dream cast” if the book were to be made into a movie. In both posts I cast a very talented friend of mine, Ashley Jackson, in the role of Molly.
Ashley stars in the music video for Kait Weston’s “With You”. Watch it and see why I chose Ashley as Molly. This is exactly how I pictured the character. There’s so much “Molly” here. And I LOVE the song. I think I found the inspiration for the main character in the next book I am working on.
